‘Incantations’ (2022) is the fifth and final album by The Singles. True to the band name, and poetically fitting as the final release, it was written and performed entirely by single founding member, Vincent Frederick, with a little help from his friend and producer, Taylor Locke (Rooney, Train).

The two began recording in April of 2021 at Locke’s Velveteen Laboratory studio in Los Angeles. They worked in a manner that wasted no time and involved little discussion, leaving the raw energy of the songs intact. Frederick set the tempo on guitar as Locke set the drum programming and off they went. In just three 5 hour sessions they had recorded what would be the foundation (and all the lead vocals) of the 10 songs that make up the album. Truly a “Singles” record. Frederick played most of the instruments, with Locke adding musical support and some stellar backing vocals that shine without overpowering. The result is an album that captures the essence of Frederick’s home demos, polished by Locke’s production. No live drums, and only one bass guitar line was recorded.

All things must come to an end, and ‘Incantations’ is the perfect send off for The Singles band. As the last of his heartache/heartbreak tunes are recorded, Vincent Frederick (now happily married) is free to move onward to his next musical adventure!
